This client was looking for a pendant carved with the Chinese zodiac signs for her children: years of the tiger and snake. It is set with an unheated zoisite and a purple spinel, 18K gold.

Gecko ring with freeform Mexican opal
Geckos and grasses carved around and holding an amazing free-form Mexican opal. 18K, opal, and diamonds.
I love to complain about how my lightbox never captures the fire in opals, and this is no joke–observe:
Can you even believe it? This is the same ring underneath a lamp. This opal was like this little oceany jelly drop and I wanted to eat it.
Continue readingCustom-cut white sapphire wedding set
This awesome wedding set features a gorgeous custom-cut white sapphire by Top Notch Faceting (hands down my favorite gemstone cutter). The solitaire setting has a branching tree motif with a crescent moon carved on one side, the wedding band is an open design with a branching tree with leaves motif, and a matching classic-style wedding band with a single branch with leaves intaglio-carved on it.

Continue readingSnake & moonstone trillion solitaire
This snake was specifically intended to be modeled after a bush viper, which has extremely prominent spiky, ‘fluffy’ scales (the cuddly guy!). A little tricky at this scale, especially when you intend the ring to be comfortable to wear, but I modified the idea a little and am super happy with how this ring turned out.
We also went with a strong patina on the white gold. It is more of a deep metallic gray color rather than strong black like the way sterling silver oxidizes, but I think it had a very nice effect and contrast against the rainbow flashes of the moonstone.
Continue readingMarsh blooms + dragonflies ring
This ring was designed around this gorgeous 1.5ct diamond. A handful of bright, dare I say, “jewel tone” stones were added around the diamond: a berry colored garnet, a tsavorite green garnet at the top & a Pariaba tourmaline at the bottom, and on the other side is a gorgeous yellow-orange spessartite garnet. The flower is sort of field-marsh inspired, but I didn’t base it particularly on any specific species, just went off and carved an idealized bloom spike. I imagine the flowers are yellow in my head. 18K.
Continue readingCherry blossom solitaire with 2ct Old Mine Cut diamond
I so rarely do prong settings, but agreed to for this amazing 2-carat Old Mine cut diamond. I did a scalloped pointy 8-prong setting with a sakura blossom motif down the shoulders and sides of the band, little diamonds set in the centers of each bloom. At the base is carved a tiny daffodil bloom. 18K. This ring really turned out fantastically.
A ton more photos after the click:
