new low-profile solitaire

Low-profile solitaire in palladium 950

This is a low profile version of my solitaire engagement ring. It’s super simple compared to the carving craziness I usually create, but I really love this sleek little design. This one is made of Palladium 950 and has a 5.5mm moissanite stone. I just added it to my Etsy shop.

Like my other solitaire, I carved this one with narrow sides but a wider, more substantial base for counterbalance. (Just like me!)

Aside from the height, the main difference between this and my other solitaire is how it fits up against a wedding band. I carved the original ring specifically as a compliment to my carved bands; it sits nicely parallel against a wedding band whether it has irregular edges or is straight. The height of the bezel makes this possible.

With the low-profile solitaire, the bezel is lower and so it pushes the band a little off of the ring rather than allowing it to rest underneath the bezel and parallel overall to the ring. The OCD in me initially found it very important that the solitaire and band be absolutely parallel, but I’ve mellowed in my old age and now these things do not bother me at all. In fact, I find them to be perfectly acceptable. Besides, stacked rings don’t typically stay in exactly the same spot on your finger every moment.

Here are a couple of photos of the original solitaire for comparison:

You can see the difference in how the bands fit up against the solitaire. The high-profile solitaire allows the band to snuggle up just a little more.

I’m quite amazing, as always, by your craft. I also think that ring sets don’t have to align perfectly- I find it very romantic and vintage-like when they don’t. It looks stunning with all the bands, but I think my favorite is the wide mistletoe band.
