This was a custom pendant created for a mother by her son. The ruby sun is her birthstone, and the three anemone flowers are the children’s birthstones: citrine, amethyst, and blue zircon. 18K yellow gold.
I have to say: ‘Mother’s jewelry’ can be a little tough to design, I feel. I’m not sure if the issue is the potential of an awkward mix of stones, or the brain-block I have because of what I’ve seen done commercially (too cheesy!). I always get a little stressed when I get a request for something using a bunch of birthstones. However, this design concept of the sun + flowers was perfect: Anemones are an ideal carving motif, I must say, and I was digging the kind of mid-century vibe & contrast of the sun design. Plus, all stones were nicely matched as far as saturation and color contrast goes. It was perfect and I was so happy with how it turned out.
