This gorgeous 1 1/2ct cushion diamond needed a strong setting: Wide shiny platinum band with just a little bit of something-something going on.

Reworks of older wedding rings can be a lot of fun. I started with a pile of diamonds: Giant light grey centerstone, plus a smattering of light pink, yellow, and champagne colored side diamonds. The new ring has a steampunk Jules Verne vibe to it with a port window in 18K yellow gold holding down the center stone.

This is a wedding band carved with a little swoop to fit up against my snake solitaire. The accompanying band is a classic style with a little snake carved into the inside of the band. 18K and diamonds.

I love LOVE this design. I’ve re-created it now three times over the past decade for three different diamonds and every time it’s my favorite.

This iteration I did more of a brushed/satin finish on the leaves and upper face of the ring, but polished bright the inside and sides you see above, around the bezel leading up to the stone, and the tips of the fluttery ginkgo leaves.
18K with a hair under 1.5ct diamond.

This amazing antique diamond needed a setting.. And since there can never be too many snake rings, it seemed like just the perfect thing. 1.95ct antique pear-cut diamond (with a crazy high-profile table & nice fat culet!) and 18K yellow gold. I LOVE how this guy turned out.

This is a ring I carved for this sweet cabochon emerald I impulse-bought at the Tucson Gem Show a few years back. Usually, I have a list of things I’m specifically getting for current or upcoming projects, or just replacing stock I use regularly. If I bought random things, I usually bought them because they were cool (but inexpensive!); this one was an exception though, as emeralds are generally not inexpensive, and I could not resist the size 🙂
Anyway. I don’t usually have spare time to cook up cool rings for cool stones I couldn’t pass up. I LOVE how it turned out and need to do this more often.
18K yellow gold, emerald from Columbia.

This is a custom Sweet Pea motif setting created for this gorgeous peach-colored tourmaline. I carved it very 3-dimensional, and made little windows on the sides so that you could see the pavilion below the bezel (which also allows additional light to enter the stone, making it brighter).
