Double-snake solitaire, rose cut diamond

This ring is the result of a collaboration with the lovely Shan Adams! The design is a reproduction of an antique Victorian double-snake ring, and the one pictured is the first we made using a client’s gorgeous rose-cut diamond. I carved the shank part of the ring & Shan, who specializes in Georgian-style cut-down collet settings, does the mounting.

Hand-carved snake solitaire with sapphire

Hooray for more snake rings! This was a fun one: two snakes in white gold flanking a center Montana cabochon sapphire. The stone was clear with a pale lavender tinge and a flash of orange across it; very unique. Two very small 1mm diamonds are set in the eyes of the snakes. I think I need to start making larger snakes because 1mm is not my flush-setting comfort zone…

I carved in scale texture for one of the snake’s bodies and left the other smooth for contrast.

Hand-carved snake cocktail ring with a smoky black opal and OEC diamond, 14K gold

It has been really fun to see how this ring transforms with each new and totally different stone I make it with. I’ve been lucky enough to get to try it with the original boulder opal of course, this glossy and awesome smoky semi-black Lightning Ridge opal, an insanely gorgeous carnelian that looked like jelly candy, and a gorgeous white opal with a flash of turquoise running through it. I love the different vibes each stone lends this ring. I’m ready to make more!

This is the nicest carnelian I’ve ever seen; it is all natural color and actually the original stone was larger and I had it cut down to fit this setting. The diamonds in this and the smoky black opal above are both antique Old European Cut diamonds.

Pairing a bright green-blue paraiba tourmaline with this opal was a brilliant idea. It looked so good against the yellow gold and really brought the blue and green flashes out of the opal.

14K snake cocktail ring + boulder opal & OEC diamond

More snake rings: BIGGER snake rings. This ring I carved around a sweet boulder opal I just couldn’t pass up because I thought it was like looking down upon a little tropical inlet, like maybe in the Baja perhaps, specifically around here… I got a nice little Old European cut antique diamond to accent the piece and finished it up a couple of weeks ago! LOVE how it turned out. I was hard pressed to let it go, and honestly, if it weren’t one of my favorite clients who bought it, I may have had to keep it myself.

This is, however, a new studio piece and I can customize (different stones, change up the diamond, 14K, 18K white or yellow gold, etc.) and adjust for size. It’s now listed in my Etsy shop!

See how amazing this ring is? It makes even my ratty old studio sweatshirt look chic! (I kid.)

The other ring in this photo is my Coiled Snake Solitaire—also available in the Etsy shop.

ouroboros & pacific NW wedding bands

Hand-carved ouroboros + Pacific NW wedding bands, platinum

A hand-carved ouroboros wedding band for him, and for her, a Pacific Northwest forest band with trilliums, ferns, and one teeny little snake peeking out. Platinum 950.

She was generally less interested in having a giant snake around her finger, but they wanted a hint of continuity between the two bands, so the little snake amongst the foliage was the answer. Of course, I am always happy to carve a snake on a ring, whenever needed.

Tahitian and South Sea pearl drop pendants, 18K

I made a new batch of pieces for the shop in downtown Portland: these lovelies are 18K yellow gold with Tahitian pearls (the giant gunmetal drop & the pistachio drop), and 14K white gold with a lovely white South Sea baroque pearl. I want to keep each new thing that I make. It’s so hard letting go!

Here is another shot of the pistachio drop. I wanted to keep it.

18K snake S-hook strand of pearls

Multi-color peachy and pink freshwater pearls! These awesome jobbers are knotted on silk and attached to a carved snake S-hook because that’s just how I roll around here. AAAHHH! Can I keep them already?!

** PSA: These guys are going really fast. If you are looking for a custom pearl piece, please send me an email. I’ll be stocking up on new pearls/raw materials in early February and before I go would be a VERY good time to get your custom order requests in. **

Coiled snake pendant + Tahitian pearl 18K

More pearl drops! This time a ginormous perfect drop-shaped Tahitian black pearl with a hint of green and bronze to it. It’s held by a tiny coiled snake in 18K gold with an 18K gold chain. This pearl, the Art Nouveau snake below, and a few other pieces have actually been placed in a shop in Downtown Portland! First time for me to have my things in a shop. I’m a little nervous to see how they do, so here’s hoping it works out.

art nouveau snake pendant + Cortez pearl 18K

I just finished this one and I love it! I went full-on art nouveau inspired on this one and added a rainbow pearl drop from the Sea of Cortez. This one is 18K gold, and I’ll be listing it in my shop soon. (But send me an email if you don’t yet see it and would like pricing info.)

The amazing thing about these pearls is the variety of color in each pearl. Generally with Tahitians, you see one dominant overtone color, like green, or magenta. With pearls from the Sea of Cortez (a completely different species of saltwater oyster—different genus, in fact), you tend to see a variety of rainbowy colors: pink, green, lavender, blue all on the same pearl. Colors change depending upon the light, the background color they are next to, etc. They tend to also have a lighter bodycolor as well. I absolutely love them.

I also made a version in 14K gold with a Tahitian black pearl drop. Yum!

I’ll be offering this pendant in 14K or 18K white or yellow gold, with your choice of pearl drop. The above two are ready-to-wear as is.

OOAK baroque Tahitian pearl w/carved 18K snake pendant

This giant baroque pearl from Tahiti was just so damned cool there was no way it wasn’t coming home with me. Because if its unique shape and overall spectacular coolness, I had to create something custom for it and only it, as it wouldn’t fit in any of my more “normal” sorts of pearl cup mountings, nor would a simple bail do it any sort of justice. Not surprisingly, I decided to go with a snake, as a means of feeding my several years’ long snake obsession, and because they are cool, but also because snakes are very forgiving motifs—you can drape and position them whichever way you please. Perfect for this blobular pearly awesomeness.

This baroque Tahitian drop measures an insane 17.5mm x 12.7mm. I really love this pearl; it has a gorgeous lustre and an incredible silvery oatmeal color. I have a particular affinity towards the lighter toned pearls—silvers and golden colors—over the more classic black Tahitians, and this one just kills me. The snake & chain are 18K gold.

This guy is for sale, by the way. Send me an email or check my Etsy shop for details. Thanks!!
